Kia ora everyone
Due to some recent changes in my personal circumstances, I am now in a position where I must find work. I have been considering my options during this term and it has become increasingly apparent that my being on the Board, particularly in the role of Chair, is at extreme odds with my desire to work at the Discovery campus. No matter how open I’ve been with the community about my intentions, should I get a job at Discovery the perception of undue influence will always be there while I am active on the Board.
With that in mind, I have made the decision to resign from my role as Board Chair (effective immediately) and I will step back from active involvement on the Board for term 2. The Board have a process in place to deal with my departure, so there is no concern there and everything will continue to run smoothly. Evan Kidd, the Deputy Chair will act as Chair until the next Board meeting, where a new chair will be elected.
I have really enjoyed my time as Chair and am a bit sad at having to change direction part-way through my term, but unfortunately life is not always smooth sailing and I must put my family’s financial security first at this time. Once I have confirmed some employment I will either return to the Board as a parent trustee or I will resign outright.
Thank you all for your support during my tenure; I know you will offer the same to the next Chair.
Nga mihi nui
