Newsletter week 6 Term 2
Sarah, Steve, Kate and I have been chatting lately and we would like a few messages to go out to parents again. Firstly School finishes at 3pm. Homebase time from 2.30-3pm is in our community space and this is a time for students to work independently on SDL or updating their LMS. If students would like to make arrangements to work offsite during this time an OSL from will need to be completed each term outlining what they will be doing. Secondly Friday mornings. 9-10.30am is a time for students to work towards SDL. It could include working at home, visiting places, working with other students, catching up on homework etc. This is a great time for students to engage with the wider community. If they are working “off-site” then an OSL form will need to be completed.
Please continue talking to your children around their SDL and how they are using their time at school. Encourage them to use the LMS to record their learning. We also use Collect, Connect and Create, CCC, as a structure for students. This is to make sure that they do something with the information they gather and that they process it. You could also encourage them to include some tasks under each of the CCC headings.
CCC Sharing night Thursday June 30th from 5.30
We have a few options running this term. We want to be able to share the students work with you guys so we will be holding an event in week nine. The event will include a photography exhibition and two MKR instant restaurants. Please just lock in the date at this point and once again more details will follow. We will need people to book into the restaurants in advance so we can ensure we have the right amount of food. We may also have a COL during the daytime for students to share other work.
End of term trip into town, Friday 8th July
Once again we are planning an end of term day out and about. We have booked some activities at the Museum, the Art Gallery and the YMCA. A letter will come home with details of when and where to meet.
Matariki 24th June 4pm onwards
Matariki celebrations are on June 24th from 4pm – 8pm at the Discovery Campus. Everyone is invited to this whole school community event. We will have lots of workshops running and heaps of parents and students involved. We had a meeting tonight and we have put together lots of lists. Request for donations and help will come out really soon so keep an eye out for it. Hopefully we will see lots of you there on the night.
Planning for next term
CCC workshops. If you have a passion/interest and would like to run a CCC workshop next term – please let us know so we can talk.
