Congratulations to Ayiana

Eight Canterbury Ballet dancers, varying in age from 10 to 17 years, took out the first prize in classical ballet at an international dance competition in Prague in the Cheque Republic in July. Two of their dancers, (then) 16 year old contemporary dancer Courtney Pearce and 13 year old ballet dancer Ayiana Lo-Fo- Wong were also awarded ‘Talents of Dance’, a prize only handed out to six of the around 150 dancers. We are so proud of Ayiana and wish her the best as she continues her future in dance.

Student Volunteer Army

Last week the SVA hosted the final session of the UC Student Volunteer Army UCan programme for Year 10s where students got the chance to reflect on what they have learned, brainstorm new project ideas and celebrate their volunteering achievements. Grace, Harriet, Fern and Faith all gave up their time to work on some special projects with the SVA. Last week the SVA In-schools team of Daniel Stack and Bonnie Dalton presented students with their certificates upon completion of the UC Student Volunteer Army UCan programme.

Self defence

Over the last three Thursday’s Sarah’s homebase and other students in our community have taken part in a self defence course. The students learn the vital basics of self defence. This was a highly valuable experience for the students and something that we recommend to everyone. Well done to all those that took part and thank-you to Dougal from Knockout Self defence.

Dance Showcase Wednesday 31 August 2016 – 7pm

All are welcome to come along to the Dance Showcase. We will be showcasing students work in Dance from year 7 & 8’s through to NCEA level 3. Also featuring a musical interlude from our own Music students.

Quiz Night

Just a reminder we need lots of support with this. The money raised will go towards an end of year community event. We would love as many people as possible to come along and join in the fun. Tickets are $10 a person and teams of around 6-8 work well.

Also we would love some help with the raffle. We were thinking one item per family to go in a hamper for a raffle prize. This can be either a groceries item or a beauty / personal care item. If you know of anyone or organisation that could maybe supply a raffle prize could you let us know as well. We need a few prizes.

Thanks

Kay
