Kia ora whānau and welcome to week 1 which is shaping up to be fantastic fun! Welcome back to existing families and welcome to the team to our new people. Please read this carefully as it has lots of information – apologies for the length!
Sun hats – please provide your child with a named sun hat each day.
Swimming caps – Propellor Swim Schools has notified us that each child will need to wear a swimming cap. Please provide a named swimming cap in their swim bags.
Lunches – This year we will need children to keep their lunchboxes in their bags. Their named drink bottles can rest on the outside shelves, near the blue door or in their bags. For this term we will be eating outside (unless the weather prohibits this).
Changes of clothing – Please ensure your child has one change of clothes in their bag each day inside a bag which we can return wet, sandy, dirty clothes in.
Break times – Morning tea is 10.30am – 11am (except Tuesdays 10.00am – 10.30am); lunch is 12.15 – 1pm (except swimming weeks 11.45am-12.15pm).
Google Forms – We use google forms to arrange all our trips and visits etc. It is important that we get information about whether children can attend trips or programmes and whether they need transport. It would help us as a team if you could endeavour to fill these out as soon as possible to assist us with our planning.
Tuesdays – we have a range of outside providers coming to deliver some amazing learning opportunities for the tamariki. We have kapa haka from 10.30 – 10.50; and in the afternoon Todd providing sports/PE each week and Music Mary and Mindful Movers alternating weeks.
Fridays – Nature Play Days. For this term on most Fridays we will be basing ourselves at Halswell Quarry for the day. Please fill out the form in the email entitled “Junior Community Nature Play Days at Halswell Quarry” sent by Gina last week.
Timetables – While we have a general timetable for the term each week is likely to be different. I will endeavour to email out a timetable for each week so you can see what is happening. Look in your inbox for this week’s one.
Monday 4th February – Abberley Park 10am – 2pm. Thank you to all of you who have filled in the form. It will be a fun day of getting to know each other. We have a focus on our core value “KAHA” for the day. If your child needs transport there please ensure they are at the Discovery campus at 9am. Those requiring transport back will be there by 3pm at the latest. Upon arrival at the park please sign in with your child’s LA and sign out with them as you leave.
Wednesday 6th March – Waitangi Day – school closed.
Monday – Thursday Weeks 2 and 3. Swimming. We will get back to you soon about when you are needed for transport. Please fill in the form “Swimming – level of confidence” form sent by me earlier today. And if you haven’t already please fill in the swimming permission form sent on 28th January in the email “Important start of year information” from me.
Wednesday 13th February – Parent Community Meeting 3.15pm in the Wharenui followed by an EOTC and LMS training session. Each term we have a parent meeting to discuss the term ahead. Niki offers EOTC training which you must do if wanting to help on trips (as well as completing a police vet form) and I offer training on how to use the school’s LMS (Learning Management System). The LMS holds information on your child’s IEMs, 1:1s, learning programmes etc. It is also where you enter posts about any OSL (off site learning) experiences. I will also cover information about how we will use the app “Seesaw” this year as a community. We expect every family to be represented at the community meeting however we are aware that some times just don’t suit. Please send your apologies if you can’t make it and then read the minutes afterwards. If you have already done the EOTC/LMS training you do not need to stay on for this.
