Upcoming Strike Action

The school has been advised of the following strike action over the upcoming month.

This week PPTA union members are participating in rolling strikes which will impact on students in y7 – 13.

On Tuesday 14th October, year 7 and 9 students won’t be able to attend school.

On Wednesday 15th October, year 8 and 10 students won’t be able to attend school.

On Thursday 16th October, year 11 and 12 students won’t be able to attend school.

On Friday 17th October, year 13 students won’t be able to attend school.

If you are unsure what year your child is in, then please use the parental portal, or email the office, or your child’s Home Base Learning Advisor.

At Ao Tawhiti we don’t offer our classes in year levels. We are unique in this regard. This means that the classes outlined in the link below won’t be taught on the days of strike action, as the Learning Advisors are on strike. If your child is enrolled in that class, and is at school then they will be expected to do Arotahi during that color block. There will be limited supervision from non-union members across the floors.

We encourage our year 7 – 10 students to do off site learning on Tuesday and Wednesday, if possible.

Please also note: We are having our network upgraded on Tuesday 14th October, so we are unsure if students will have access to the internet on that day.

On Thursday 23rd October, all union staff across years 1- 13, plus some support staff will be on strike for the whole day, so there will be no timetabled classes on that day. There will be limited supervision for students in years 1 – 6, if needed. Please be aware that there will only be 2 teachers and a couple of teacher aides available for this supervision. If your child needs supervision on this day then complete the form at this link https://forms.gle/cTMtRiRteM7hPcCG8

The school camp for Nicole and Mel will go ahead.

On Wednesday November 5th, Learning Advisors responsible for students in years 7 – 13 will be on strike from 1:15pm – 3:15pm, so school will finish at 12:20pm that day, for students in year. – 13. The school camp for Floor Four will go ahead. NZQA exams will go ahead.

We understand that the unique way in which we run our school makes rostering strikes more complex than it would be in another school. We really appreciate your ongoing support.

Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s Home Base Learning Advisor if you have any questions.
