Kia ora e te whānau,
I thought I would explain a little about how Y1-6 will operate in 2022.
This year, the 2 communities have been separated across floors 1 and 3. While it has had some benefits (noise!) it has also had some drawbacks, the main one being a feeling of disconnect between the 2 communities. For that reason, and the ability to get out and about with ease, Y1-6 will operate out of floor 1 in 2022.
Charis and the new entrants will begin life in the board room, working closely with Jenny and the Y1/2’s who will be based in 1.6 (Mel’s current HB). Mel and some Y2/3’s will be based in 1.1, currently Laura and Sarah’s HB in the corner. Bonnie and her Y2/3’s will continue to be based in the same room, 1.5.
Melva with her Y4/5’s will work out of 1.3, which is currently Libby’s HB, and next door to the new Y4/5 HBLA, whom we are in the process of recruiting.
Kate, Kat and Debs will all work out of the community space. These three awesome LAs are all working part time, and will have smaller HB numbers, sharing 48 ākonga between them. They will be collaborating, much as Kate and Debz collaborate this year, and will be working together to release each other for the days they are off and for 1-1 and Classroom Release Time (CRT). The hope with this arrangement is to provide some consistency for the ākonga who this year have had multiple relievers in their space, including the amazing Hannah and Gina.
Gina will continue to release the LAs across Y1-4 for their 1-1/ CRT days. All LAs will have 5 release days a term to have 1-1s with students and for admin/ professional development/ etc. CLs continue to be released for one day a week to lead their communities. We are in the process of recruiting a fixed term CL to cover Suze’s duties for 2022.
I hope this helps. If it raises questions, please email me (niki.stephenson@aotawhiti.school.nz) and I will try to answer them.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the LAs who have supported us during a crazy year, including our regular relievers Shalom, Kat, Alex, Jack, Jack and Jess. We couldn’t do it without you! I imagine everyone is looking forward to a well-earned break over the summer.
