Two shows only; 7pm Friday 16 October and 7pm Saturday 17 October. Ao Tawhiti Unlimited Discovery’s Drama students are performing Passengers for our 2020 Senior Production. The performances are at Majestic25, corner of Wilmer and Durham Street.
Passengers, written by one of New Zealand’s leading playwrights, is set in the 1860s, onboard an immigrant ship transporting 19 working-class women, aged between 12 and 21, from England to New Zealand in search of a better life. This is a story of their journey during the 130 days at sea. Created from actual records of the time, this play gives an insight into the extreme conditions on board the ship and into the challenges these immigrants faced during their quest for a new beginning in a foreign land.
