Floor Four Sunday Newsletter 1/3/2020

Kia ora whānau from Floor Four,

Gina and I have decided to combine our weekly Sunday newsletters and alternate who writes them. We realised we were basically duplicating information and this way we can work smarter. So here goes…

What a great week we had last week, especially the amazing Athletics Day. Gina and I would like to acknowledge the immense amount of work Dean put into planning and executing the activities for our floor. Thank you also to our LAs and parents who supported on the day. Important Safety Message – please ensure you sign out your child with their LAs before taking them away from any trip. Several staff could not leave Athletic Sports for quite a while until they had tracked down that children had actually been picked up.

Dates for your diary:

  • Monday 2nd March 3.15pm – Parent Community Meeting. Followed by EOTC and LMS Training
  • Monday 2nd March 6.30pm – Parent LMS training with Niki (Floor 1 Community Space)
  • Thursday 5th March – Years 1-6 Swimming Sports at Waltham Pool
  • Friday 6th March – Floor Four COL 9.15am, HB trips 11.30am onwards
  • Tuesday 10th March 7pm – EOTC and LMS training
  • Monday 6th – Wednesday 8th April – Floor Four Camp

Parent Community Meeting – Gina and I would like to invite you all along to a meeting tomorrow afternoon. This will be an opportunity for you to meet other parents, to let you know some of the things happening on the floor this term and a chance for you to ask questions. Children are welcome to stay on the floor – please help them tidy before you leave. This meeting will be followed by EOTC and LMS training.

EOTC and LMS Training – There are three opportunities over the next two weeks for you to learn about our school LMS (Learning Management System) and two opportunities to complete EOTC (education Outside The Classroom) training. You must have completed EOTC training, along with a police vet, to take out groups without an LA and to transport children in your car. Please let Nadine or Gina know if you plan to come to the Tuesday 10th evening session – if no one plans to come, we’d love to go home instead of waiting around.

Swimming Sports – This Thursday the children will be picked up by bus at 10.20am to head off to Waltham Pool for an 11am start. We would love to have as many parents as possible to come and cheer the children on. For most children the day if about giving things a go but for some it is a chance to be selected for Zones. The buses will leave Waltham Pool at 2.30pm and return them to school for a 3pm pick up. If you wish to take your child directly home from the pool please sign out with your LA on the day.

COL – We have our first Floor Four COL (Celebration of Learning) this Friday at approximately 9.15am. You are more than welcome to come along and hear the children share about their learning.

Friday Out and About Trips – Please complete any relevant forms for your child’s HB.

HB Piwakawaka – Friday 6th March

HB Ruru – Butterfly house. Please see Ruru Week 6 below.

HB Pouakai – Band Rotunda/Sports – please let Kate know if you can help. kate.griffith@aotawhiti.school.nz)

Camp – thank you to all who have filled out the sign up form. If you haven’t please do so ASAP.  Please fill out by 28th Feb

End of Day pick-ups – please ask your child to remain on the fourth floor to be picked up. This will help minimise the busyness of floor one at 3pm. Also, if someone different is picking your child up, please notify their LA and ask that person to sign in at reception upon arrival.

Can you help us with duties at lunchtime? If so please add your name to this doc. Parent lunchtime help

Swimming Lessons – We have made the decision to postpone swimming lessons. Thank you to those who offered transport help. We think it may be best to organise swimming by HB later in the year.
