Hi everyone,
Coco and I are currently working on an assessment in Kate’s efs class. In this assessment, we pick an issue, plan it and carry out a social action. We have chosen to plan action around food poverty in Christchurch. Approximately 14.0% of the New Zealand population is food insecure and needs assistance. One of the main causes of food poverty in New Zealand is lack of funds so by donating food to the pantries we are easing some of this stress on families.
For our action we plan to run a food drive here at Ao Tawhiti, we will take the donations that we get to some of the food pantries around our local communities in Christchurch. Taking the food that we get to these pantries will benefit a lot of people in our community.
So we encourage all of you to donate some non-perishable food to our drive.
We will leave the donation box (bright green box) on level one opposite the front desk, by the giraffe on the black bench. The box will be there from the start of week 4 to the end of week 5. 16th-26th.
Here is a list of non-perishable food that can be donated.
Canned Meats, Canned Tuna and Salmon, Peanut Butter, Jelly (no glass), Canned or Dry Soups, Tea Bags, Coffee(ground no beans), Canned Vegetables, Canned Fruit, Canned Pasta, Cereals, Rice, Cake Mixes, Pancake Mix, Syrup, Powdered Milk, Packaged Pasta (Macaroni etc.), Juice Boxes, Canned Juices, Canned Beans, Spam, Canned Gravy, Granulated Sugar, Baby Food & Cereal (glass jars accepted), Baby Formula, Muesli Bars and Cereal Bars
Thanks,
Livy and Coco
