Government Announcement – Level 3 and schools

You are likely to have heard the Prime Minister outline the high level descriptions of COVID-19 alert levels, with a focus on alert level 3.

It’s important to remember that we are still at level 4.

The Ministry of Education contacted schools last night to say the following.

There is a lot of detail to work through to operationalise the re-opening of schools and early learning services when that decision is taken.

The Government’s announcement has been made taking full account of Public Health advice.

We have organised meetings with peak bodies in the next couple of days and will work with more of you starting next week.

We will work through the practical issues that need to be addressed and provide the support [schools] need to do the very best we can.  We will give you time to do this.

Iona Holsted – Secretary for Education

There is obviously a high degree of uncertainty about when schools might be open, what that might look like and how we will manage the restrictions that may be put in place.

Please feel assured that I will provide you with as much info as I can as these decisions are made by the government, the Ministry of Education and my leadership team and learning advisors. We are continuing to develop our practice and planning to accommodate your child’s learning needs throughout these challenging times.
