Ever since I started at Ao Tawhiti in 2022, I have been given the opportunities and freedom to pursue my learning at my own pace and achieve the goals I set for myself. I’ve been able to take charge of my own learning, but I still had assistance from my teachers when I needed it. The special character has allowed me to pursue my passions, such as Philosophy, a subject offered at very few schools, at a higher level and with more support than I would be able to otherwise. I’ve already finished my first year of NCEA as a year 10, and even been able to take a STAR course with the University of Canterbury. This flexibility has been beneficial to my learning and achieving my goals, and I don’t think I could have achieved what I have at any other school.
