Whānau Update 13th March 2022

13 March 2022

Kia ora koutou

We have had a number of covid cases within a couple of Home Bases in the Years 1 – 6 community over the last three days. These cases have been limited to two Home Bases, and include the Home Base Learning Advisors of both classes. We have asked those classes and a third class that works closely with those students to stay at home until Thursday. The aim is to break the chain of transmission within those classes and stop the spread to the rest of the school. We have been in touch with all those affected families and we would like to thank those students, families and staff members for supporting the school’s decision and adjusting their weekly plans to enable their children to work from home. We know that it has an impact on family life and we appreciate the support the families are giving the school. We have also postponed swimming lessons for all the students in Years 1- 6.

Since the last update we have had the following confirmed cases:

  • Year 13 x 1  Last on site 28 February
  • Year 12 x 1 Last on site 2 March
  • Year 11 x 1 Last on site 9 March
  • Year 8 x 1 Last on site 9 March
  • Year 5 x 2 Last on site 9 and 10 March
  • Year 4 x 3 Last on site 9, 10 and 11 March
  • Year 3 x 3 Last on site 9, 10 and 11 March
  • Year 1 x 3 Last on site 9, 10 and 11 March

We have also had one support staff member and one learning advisor test positive. The Home Base class of the Learning Advisor has been informed.

Just a reminder that masks and vaccinations are the best tools to protect against Omicron and we have masks available on every floor of the building.

Thank you also to everyone for keeping in close contact with the school so we know who is unwell and who is isolating at home. We will continue to support at-home learning on Google Classroom, See Saw and the learning at home websites in the junior school. Do talk to your child’s Home Base Learning Advisor if you have any questions about this.

We now have a dedicated email address for any Covid related questions. Covid@aotawhiti.school.nz

Thank you all for your patience and support over the next couple of weeks as Christchurch heads into a predicted peak of case numbers. This peak will inevitably impact our school and we will continue to keep you all updated as the situation changes.

Be in touch with me, or your Home Base Learning Advisor if you have any questions or need extra support.
