Welcome to the beginning of week 7! Thanks to all the parents who came along to support on swimming sports day. This week there are two evening events for parents (please see below), these are great opportunities for you to gain some knowledge that will help our Tamariki. If you have registered interest in attending the EOTC training on Tuesday but now cannot make it, please email Nadine and let her know, also if you are late you will need to give her a call as the front doors will be locked (0273847671).
This week we welcome back our fab LA Debs who has been away due to family circumstances. We also farewell Bonnie who has done and amazing job with filling in for her, we are sure we will see Bonnie around for various relieving days but would like to thank her for filling Debs’ shoes at such short notice.

Behaviour
We have noticed some ongoing behaviour which sits outside our core values and we would like to ask for your support with this. You can support us by having a conversation with your child at home and also reminding children of appropriate behaviour at school when you are there, we are comfortable with you politely asking any child to stop a behaviour if you think it sits outside our core values. The types of behaviour we are asking for support with are:
- Following instructions quickly when asked
- Listening and taking turns to speak in home base
- Being respectful by not walking around or chatting at Karakia
- Walking around the building rather than running
- Cleaning up ones own mess
- Using appropriate volume for the space and activity
- Using kind words and keeping our hands to ourselves.
If you ever witness a situation that you are uncomfortable with speaking to a child about, please come and get a member of staff. We do expect our students to respect and listen to all adults in our school so if you have any issues when you ask a student to stop doing something please come and tell us.
Lost Property
A couple of weeks ago Nadine collected up all the lost property on the floor and put any named items in tote-trays. The rest of the lost property was put in a large bin which now lives outside the accessible toilet. After less than two weeks this pile is absolutely over flowing. We ask that you regularly check the bin, name all clothing and ask your child to take care of their things.
We are also looking for a few parent volunteers who could go through the bin once a week (perhaps Friday morning) and put any named items into tote-trays then lay out the lost property along the stair front so Homebases can have a once a week check of it. Please email Gina or Nadine if you can help.
Cleaning Up
We are noticing that at the end of the day the floor is often left in quite a mess, the students and some parents are doing an excellent job of tidying the play room and homebases, but this has meant that the communal spaces such as the kitchen, cafe area, deck and shared landing areas (such as bag hooks) are often very untidy. We like to think that as a community we value our school and we would like to remind you that students, staff and parents all share these areas.
If you have a spare 5 minutes at the end of the day please lend a hand by focussing on tidying these areas – things like:
- Stacking the dishwasher and wiping the bench
- Picking up any rubbish in the cafe or on the deck
- Collecting up lost property and moving it to the lost property bin
All of this makes a huge difference to LAs who are currently working very long hours and keeps a sense of pride in our amazing school. In addition to this we have also added a community clean up time to our timetable at 2.40pm every Wednesday where we will all do a full clean up of our floor, your help at this time is also appreciated.
Health Forms for Camp
A reminder to get these filled in as soon as possible. LAs will be following up with those missing forms. Nadine and I intend to start working on invoices this week so look out for those in your inbox too.
Choir
A senior student, Courtney Alison has offered to set up a year 1-6 lunchtime choir. Choir practice will be held at lunchtimes on Wednesdays in room 3.8, students are welcome to bring their lunch. Any student can join but there is an expectation that they are there to sing and will commit to practice. The choir will be working towards competing in the Christchurch Music Festival. If your child is interested please email Gina or Nadine.
Under the Sea and Fairy Doors Project Group
Kia ora Under the Sea and Fairy Door project group whānau,
On Thursday 19 March, we will be combining the Under the Sea and Fairy Door project group for a trip to New Brighton Beach. The Under the Sea group will be focused on creating an Ephemeral Art work with what they can find on the beach, expressing the Seaweek theme of connecting with our seas. This will be photographed with the intention to be entered in the Seaweek competition.
The Fairy Door group will be going on a hunt for little beach treasures to take back and use on their creative doors.
The children will also be reminded about the issue of rubbish that is impacting on the waterways, ocean and sea life – we will be doing a clean up along part of the beach.
We will be spending most of the day there and the requirements are outlined on the google permission form – to be emailed out during the week. The main mode of transport is by way of public bus, Yellow Line. Due to the number of children, it will be super helpful to have parents attending to ensure that the trip can go ahead.

We have been sent the following event to share with you:
The Engineering NZ Transportation Group in conjunction with the NZ Institute of Landscape Architects are hosting a Open Play Street on Colombo Street between Lichfield Street to Hereford Street. The street will be open for people to take part in FREE fun activities. This event aims to celebrate our central city and support businesses by encouraging the community into town and letting them experience this section of Colombo Street in a different way. Big thanks to Fulton Hogan, Pulzar FM, Lululemon, O-Studio, Sport Canterbury and many others for supporting this event. (The event will be cancelled if it is raining.)
